We have something in common...

Kim Kardashian, Princess Kate, Chel Nel

What do I have in common with these ladies? Not much. I'll never be a princess, nor will I ever been a millionaire for no reason (there is still hope I guess) yet we all share something big!
We are all having a B A B Y this JULY :)
Russ and I are super excited to welcome a little baby into our family!!
July just so happens to also be my favorite month of the entire year so I couldn't be more pleased.
Sure it will be a bazillion degrees and Ill probably be swollen up the wah-zoo but Im still stoked.
I can already imagine birthday parties in the park.

Here is what we know:

Russ has 7 other siblings and almost ALL of them have at least one red head. I am borderline red hidden under all that blond. In fact, one day when I was little and had a short little bob hair cut, I remember my cousin telling me my hair looked like a chicken nugget. So you could imagine my natural golden/red hair color.
Russ has loads of red in his beard. One day I tweezed one of his beard hairs, and yanked a hair out of the bottom of my hair (I used to not dye the under part of my hair) and we compared them and they were identical in color, and RED RED RED.
So I am 80% sure we will have a red head, and Im also 75% sure its a girl. We could find out now but I am such a planner I want to wait a little longer until they will know for sure! So we will find out what we are having in a couple weeks! Russ has his fingers crossed for a little dude.
This will be the 8th grandchild on my side, and the 19th grandchild on Russ's side so it will be extremely loved and surrounded by lots of cousins and aunts and uncles.

I have never been so sick in my life. First thing when I wake up, and even in the middle of the night, in 2 Subway parking lots, my work parking lot, at Tucanos restaurant down town for Russ's birthday, and my personal favorite...driving down the road and not being able to get over and making a MESS in my car. You just never know when its going to hit.

We told our parents a couple of weeks ago.
It was Russ's birthday and we knew both of our parents would have a birthday dinner for him. His parents asked where we wanted to go for his birthday dinner and I already had something up my sleeve so we chose a Chinese restaurant and went a little early before they arrived to deliver something. We enjoyed our lunch and as the waitress brought out the bill and fortune cookies we waited..

Russ's mom was the first to open and she looked, and looked and then looked confused.
Then "ding" she got it. They were of course both thrilled to bone.
We later learned that she didn't get it because she thought it meant it was her fortune (since we share the same last name) and that it was telling her she was going to have a baby. hahaha.

We did the same for my family. We brought Chinese food to my parents house and offered to pick it up so we could change the fortune cookies to our own personal ones.
We all finished dinner and waited, and waited and no on took the bait. FINALLY my niece asked if she could have one and my sister told her to have Grandma read the fortune to her. It was sweet to see how excited they were :)
It was so hard keeping it a secret for long! Especially being so sick through the holidays.
I figured it was time since I cant button up my pants any more and everything is starting to expand.. gulp.

We went to dinner the other night with a group of friends, and my friend just had a baby in December. After we ate, she put a cover over her and nursed her new sweet baby. They were sitting right across from us.
Today, Russ was cutting his hair and beard (finally) and said,
"Hey, this would actually make a really good breast feeding cover. You just slip it right over your head."

Heaven help us.

  2. Chels!!! That is SO exciting. I am super happy for you! You're going to be a fabulous mom. Jordan was born in July and yes it was hot and uncomfortable towards the end of the pregnancy, but you're right about outside parties being so much fun! So sorry you've been so sick. It's not fun but the reward at the end is worth it all! Hang in there. I love your way of suprising everyone with the fortune cookies! Too cute.

  3. I am so happy for you! Being a mom is great. Terrifying, depressing, and unbelievably amazing. I feel for you, being sick through the holidays. I told Kerri that we won't be getting romantic in October ever again :) I hope you are feeling better now though. If not, take heart, it will end soon. After fifteen weeks I stopped throwing up and a couple weeks later actually started feeling well again.

Nursery decorating, baby clothes (and if it's a girl, headbands, flowers, ribbons, sparklies!!!), baby shoes, that sweet baby smell....so much to look forward to! Again, I'm so happy for you both!
